I agree with much of your thesis. The "average" US Citizen over the age of 50 has a sense of fairness and a skeptic of any government activities. "The Government is here to help you" is a foreign concept to most of us.
My distrust of the US Government runs deep and I view anything which is proposed or done by the top level bureaucrats with the thought that what ever it is, it will only benefit a few, well-placed scum.
As to how far will the ordinary Citizen go to revolt against the feckless, loathsome filth who are "elected", I don't think there will be a Republic-wide insurrection. I do believe that local communities, if threatened by roaming bands of "teens", etc. will react with armed force. Small communities, where neighbors help other neighbors are very dangerous places for attacking outsiders. Hundreds of years of Urban Warfare in many countries have proven just how dangerous: take no prisoners, scorched earth, and heavy defense of "our little town".
I live in a very rural farming area and believe me when I tell you that EVERYONE owns guns and plenty of ammo. Why? Because we see inner-city thugs and feral animals attacking after their ghettos are cleaned out. Should those bunches of "teens" and "joggers" come down the road, it will be a free-fire zone and become a bloodbath.
However, the leftist pearl-clutching characters will never respond like that. Only Conservative Patriots will protect their families, homes and farms. The Vigilantes -- originally the "Vigiles" of Rome's police forces, may come out of the woodwork, but gathering a mob into an effective defense force is a daunting task.
Sometimes voting is not the answer.
You'll probably find it comical to know just how many people have simply stopped paying taxes outright.
