Why people own jets instead of renting? Jets are extremely expensive to own. It's way better to rent those when you need to travel. It's not a matter of being rich. It's just simple math.

How do you expect wealthy pedofiles to shuttle their victims and their drugs around the country without everyone seeing?

It's time. Allow me to illustrate.

I knew a guy who got fantastically wealthy during the tech boom. You may not recognize his name -- which I'm not going to mention anyhow -- but are definitely aware of his tech, which was purchased by a multinational company years ago.

Anyhow he has a shit tonne of money. The last time I saw him he was trying out his brand new lambo.

One time he mentioned in passing that he was thinking of buying a Learjet. He travels but not what I'd call excessively and, purchase price aside, just the cost to maintain one of these is enormous let alone the cost to operate it. So I asked him about it.

His response was that after becoming wealthy he realized that his most important resource is time. We take it for granted that when we want to go anywhere by plane, even a relatively short trip, that the entire day is shot. And it could even be multiple days, for instance a trip to Europe.

But if you own a jet then the amount of time the trip will take is almost literally just the flying time. No more waiting for hours in boarding lounges, or to get through customs and security. He hadn't lost the sense of what the value of a dollar is but since he could easily afford it the what looks to us to be a stupid amount of money to own and operate a jet is actually worth it when you think of the time saving.

And yes you could rent instead of own, which he was also considering. Regardless it's very expensive.

I haven't seen him for years and have no idea if he ever bought one.

Because they want to show you how much money they have. They have so much that the expense of owning is meaningless.

Exactly. When money doesn’t matter but owning a jet is more convenient than renting.

People who have that much money dont blow it to show off how rich they are. the wealthiest people act like beggars, its how they get rich, poor people blow money on looking rich. blowing money on modern art? they dont do this to look rich they do it to hide real purchases and they later donate it and write it off tax. Buying a private jet? trafficking illegal items without having to deal with people looking into what your doing.

Supply and demand ensures that renting is not always better than owning. For people who fly often with an entourage it may be cheaper to own.

It's cheaper to just imagine being somewhere else.

(((someone))) told you the math .... right ?

It really depends if you see the future or not, if you live by the day, as a slave not free to wander on earth

Short sighted reasoning: I need a flight today (no idea about tomorrow), I do not have the whole money for a plane, I rent it.

Long sighted reasoning: I know that I will need the plane 10 times at year, I will buy a plane now, possibly rent it out to the above, when I am not using it and use it myself. If I do not need it anymore, I will sell it.

Another way to see it: When you rent, you pay for the actual plane PLUS all the "management"

Clearly, some smart ass would chime up and say, ha, but you pay a ticket for trains, planes and so on, so, see.... you ARE renting something

Obviously YES, if you REALLY need a single trip, it is cheaper to "rent", BUT if you do it often, smarten up and consider buying it.

Same with houses, cars, everything.

Owning means freedom to use it whenever you wish, it means actual freedom, not begging to use something.

Who else would you rent out the Batwing to?

Airlines can cancel your flight at anytime for any reason. Then they can wait an infinite amount of time to refund you. They can leave you stranded at a transfer location. They are all basically owned by a few rich people. If you feel completely safe using public transportation that has a direct line to the feds cash and really doesn’t need your money, that is your decision to rent a seat from them. Supply and demand doesn’t work when one tribe has an infinite amount of money to undersell the competition and allows the taxpayers to flip the bills.

When they own the jet they can rent it out to others.

You own so you don't have to smell other peoples farts in the seat cushions.
