What is the general Poal belief about the Russia / Ukraine conflict? Russia has long made it clear there will be conflict if Ukraine tries to join Nato.

U.S. helped change ukranian leadership to a hand picked puppet president who sadly tried to join nato.

Everybody knows that was going to happen next.

Putin wants to take puppet president out of power or defang Ukraines ability to become a threat to Russia.

However, U.S. is not letting Ukraine surrender.

Russia seems to have not anticipated U.S. prolonging Ukraines clear decision to surrender , which will only cause more suffering for both Ukraine and Russia, not to mention Europe and America.
