An under the sink RO system tied directly to our fridge was the best decision we've ever made in our home.
Lots of options for around $200. You will need the pressure tank.
Don't get one with proprietary filters - that will cost you in the long run. As long as you stay away from the proprietary filter versions, the rest are all about exactly the same.
I have seen those setups at menards, thanks!
This is almost exactly what we have: https://www.menards.com/main/plumbing/water-filtration-softeners/undersink-water-filtration/omnifilter-undersink-reverse-osmosis-water-filtration-system/ro2050-s-s18/p-1461693616213-c-1535732895503.htm
It gets our TDS down to single digits (< 10 ppm) which is very cool - makes the water / ice tasteless. (From the ~500 ppm range ... we are higher than most because we are on a well.)
We change filters 1-2x / year and sanitize it every 1-2 years. Your maintenance will depend on your water source / etc.
Thanks, the replacement filters are reasonable as well. Cool
