Cuz its a baby and you can't put it to work right away. Raising children to do work for you is considered acceptable. For contrast, while slave children of slaves were raised to work, no one would buy a baby for slave labor.

All my kids were raised to get jobs when they were growing up. It wasn't to put "them to work" but to foster a work ethic. It also showed them the value of money.

You wouldn't believe the tips my daughter got during her paper run, especially easter, xmas, and her birthday.

I'm not implying it's wrong even if you do raise your kids to work your farm or whatever. That's the traditional way. Most of us aren't farmers any more, so we have to teach them somehow.

Surrogacy fees are usually framed as compensating the mother for cost of living, health care, and opportunity cost. In practice, everyone knows that you're buying a baby.
