It depends on definitions. If you define bigger as more mass, then black holes can certainly get bigger. If you define bigger as size, then ... who know? The artifacts of a black hole certainly get bigger (the activities around a black hole) but as for the hole itself, which isn't actually a "hole," who knows?

Yeh, that's what I mean. You can only tell a black hole exists because all the light around it gets sucked in, but because you can't see it, how do all these scientists know it's actually growing in size, and not just compressing?
