Yes. The rabies vaccine hasn't changed since it was released, and rabies is guaranteed fatal otherwise. It's a very unpleasant death, there are videos online of people with rabies and it's terrifying. Every single one of them died soon after

A few people have lived with the "Milwaukee Protocol".

Basically they put you in a coma and keep you on life support for weeks until the virus runs its course.

That's very expensive though so they pretend it doesn't work at all and just let people die.

edit

So yeah, if anyone gets a suspect bite they should get vaccinated asap.

What’s the benefit of the Milwaukee protocol vs just getting the vaccine?

Edit: nvm ignore me. The Milwaukee protocol is for unvaccinated people showing symptoms.

I'd guess timing. From what I understand about rabies you just have to get it if you're bit. Once symptoms develop it's too late. I've never heard about the Milwaukee protocol, but I'd assume it's like a last ditch effort once symptoms develop.

This. It is one of the few vaccines that is legit and haven't had to alter.

One for malaria I believe is okay too.

But only take these things if it comes by in your life.

Your best bet is to kill the animal (raccoon or otherwise) that bit you and a lab can quickly determine if it is rabid. Also, large predators like bears and wolves are unlikely to be rabid, but if your getting bit by a large predator then rabies is likely the least of your concerns. If the animal that bites you looks like it's defending cubs that are still alive then it is very unlikely that animal is rabid.

The key to understanding which animals are likely rabid is they usually have to be small enough to get caught (and bit) by another animal that is rabid (a mental impaired from being rabid) while also being large enough to not die from the bite. This is why things like squirrels and rats are unlikely to spread rabies.

To me the scary one is bats. Bats can apparently live and long time and behave normally despite being rabid. It is very unlikely you'll be able to catch a bat that bites you. Furthermore, bat bites can easily go unnoticed because they can be very small.

Bats don't just bite people though. A couple years ago a dad found a bat in the yard and showed his kids because it looked cool. The bat scratched the kid when he touched it and no one thought anything of it until it was too late. Don't fuck with bats, is a pretty simple rule to live by.

I was a janitor once and a bat got in the building. My boss told me to move him outside and I said fuck no call animal control because I'm not going near it. This female electrician volunteered to do it. She was fine and didn't get bit or anything but I thought both her and my boss were retarded.

Yes.

My daughter was bitten by a strange dog and we elected to get her the rabies shots.

It's an ordeal but worth the peace of mind.

Did your daughter get the standard other vaccines?

[–] 2 pts

Standard? What’s standard these days?

[–] 0 pt

The cute little CDC shot regimen

Yes. But that is because I have no reason for a raccoon to get close enough to bite me. It a raccoon gets close enough to bite when I am walking the dogs it is probably rabid.

[–] 5 pts

Depends. If he bests me in single hand to paw combat, it's his right to determine whether I live or die.

Also, alcohol was probably a factor.

Also, also, I'm sure that's what I deserve for getting the little bastard drunk.

I heard rabies is a painful way to die. Tetanus and rabies vaccines I would get. Flu shot? No. experimental covid shot? Never.

[–] 4 pts

With a near 100% fatality rate, yes. But you shouldn’t though.

[–] 3 pts

No i would bite the racoon back

My doctor told me getting bit by a raccoon transforms you into an Anime Tanuki Girl.

Xhe is a good doctor, prescribes me with testosterone blockers whenever I ask.

Absolutely. Watching videos of people dying from it.....that's a horrible way to go. Being unable to swallow water while you're dying of thirst. The feeling of a breeze sending you into convulsions. And many more symptoms. Fuck that. And once symptoms begin it's too late.

Any idiot who doesn't believe this and refuses the vaccine is actually choosing death...given the survival rate is basically 0% once symptoms begin.

What the fuck does a vaccine for rabies do if you already have the rabies virus in your system? Isn't that like buying car insurance after a crash?

[–] 3 pts

It takes a long time to inoculate. You want your body to know how to kill it before symptoms start showing.
