I guess I just don't get what year/decade it became aggression. When I was in grade school the student who didn't look at the teacher or look like they weren't paying attention would get called on & ridiculed. We actually had a teacher with a wooden stool and a dunce hat as a threat to those who didn't pay attention. He never used it. It was just there as a reminder.
