Interesting thought I had:

In the dark ages, poetry was written (if at all) in books, but most people didn't have access to the books so the poems went unread in their times, but now we can read some of them... survived through time.
Today, poetry is written online for mass distribution, but it can be erased easily and no future people can read it.

So breadth and time are swapped.
