On the benign side: microwaves are lower energy than infrared (radiant heat). If it caused special chemical changes, it would be used in industrial processes to bring about different reactions that heat alone doesn't cause.
Finally someone else who knows that long wave infrared light is more energetic than microwaves. Long wave IR can definitely cause chemical reactions that microwaves cannot. The very process of cooking is a chemical process where proteins get denatured, carbon-hydrogen bonds are broken and various organic molecules decompose. It would take some extremely intense microwave energy to cause these reactions, and in reality it would probably only happen because the microwave energy would be converted to long wave IR by excitation which would then drive the chemical reactions.
It boggles my mind how people think conventional ovens are safer than microwave ovens. I've never burned myself on a microwave oven. I have been burned by a conventional oven which stored so much energy in its components as to become hundred of degrees (imperial) hot to the touch. It will even stay hot from that energy storage for a long period of time. Sounds way more dangerous to me. Also, traveling wave microwaves don't do much compared to standing wave microwaves. There's a metal box inside your microwave oven for a reason and it's not to shield you from the emissions as much as it is to create a standing wave.
Id dare say that we have managed to handle ovens for well iver 10000 years mate. Some people just dont learn after touching the hot stove once though i guess
We also have managed to handle fire for over 10,000 years and yet people get burned all the time by it still. People also still fall down despite millions of years of walking. Are you saying you don't ever have accidents or accidental circumstances that lead to injuries even though you know better? You must never get out of bed if your life is 100% accident free.
