I used to use Carhartt belts. Definitely not interested in their brand any longer. So where to find a good, thick, sturdy black leather belt?

Brands don't matter. But buy genuine leather. Leather lasts for years, and nothing else does. I sometimes buy cheap, imitation leather belts -- they look good when they re new but last about six months. I've got leather belts I've had for years, and they are still in good condition. Don't get a belt that has two layers stitched together, because those layers will separate, stretch to different degrees, and the belt will be useless. Get a solid, thick, single band of leather.

Also, don't get a reversible belt, where the buckle spins around so that you can wear either side outward. That buckle will break, and then the belt is useless.

I used to go through belts about every 4-8 months. They'd tear or bust or just have the buckle break off. I bought a solid leather belt, wow, six years ago now, and the only wear on it is a little bit of paint I accidentally got on the back of it about two years ago and can't get out. Money well spent.
