Check out the library of babel. It’s an interesting website. How do I explain it. It has every phrase up to a certain amount of words written already. Every sentence you’ve ever said and every sentence you will ever say is already in the library. When it’s completed it will contain every book that will ever be written. All the works of Shakespeare randomly generated simply by the sheer volume of randomly generated letters. I think it’s cool anyways. Here’s a link https://libraryofbabel.info/ Currently anything up to 3200 characters that will ever be said in all of human history is already written somewhere in the library. Every poem of that length or shorter that will ever be written had been written. It’ll contain your name and when you were born. When you will die. When your parents will die. The next terrorist attack. It’s very interesting

It’s like if you give a monkey a type writer and infinity

It randomly generates letters and numbers in such sheer volume that everything that can ever be said is written down somewhere in the library. You can search by sentence you or can randomly pick a page.

Searched "George Floyd is a nigger" and it came up.

It’s cool ain’t it

Its pretty cool, but literally anything I type in comes up.. So its kinda hard to find any new information. Its just repeating back what I tell it essentially.

You can search by sentence you or can randomly pick a page.

If I wanted to troll people I would claim to have created every possible combination of characters and words in my "library." I would then let them search to see for themselves, except all my search does is generate a few hundred random words or characters and stick their searched phrase in the middle of it. How would they know that it didn't already exist in the library?

If they wanted to "browse" I would just generate each page of random characters or words on the fly.

Without being able to download the entire library and search for youself, there's no way to verify this isn't what's happening behind the scenes.

That’s what some people think. Why is it so hard to imagine

[–] 1 pt (edited )

It's not hard to imagine, but why go to the trouble when the results are indistinguishable from the way I described?

Pretty sure it's fake as fuck. Easy way to test for yourself:

  1. Go to the search page and enter a bunch of random characters.
  2. Note where they are found on the alleged "page"
  3. Go back to the search page and use another string of random characters.
  4. Note that they're suspiciously found at the same place in the "page" of random characters.
  5. Repeat as often as you like.

The probability of completely random text being found at the same character position on all four pages is astronomical.

That's an FTP server, but I'll allow it. What's it all about?

Ebooks and text. Lots and lots of information. A large apolitical archive.

I forked out for an Athlon 650 the day they came out just to be able to run my own Q3 server. LAN parties FTW.

U1lib.org is an awesome downloadable library.

(Fwiw you can get the Stalag edition there.)

Thanks! Downloaded the Stalag edition for later. I may print and bind it at some point.
