It was supposed to be repealed after the cessation of hostilities but then we had Korea and of course the cold war and then Viet Nam, more cold war and don't forget the space race and the war on poverty and what the hell, gubbermint needed more money and people had forgotten that it was just temporary so what the hell? imho, he did answer your question with his last sentence. I count two no votes so far. They are both telling you both situations are the same and suck. The problem with your question is you don't offer an alternative to mandatory taxation; the two scenarios are the same. I agree with both of the previous commenters' answers to your ill-formed question. A much better question would have been, Would your view of our federal government change if they stopped mandating taxes on citiizens and instead relied on foreign tariffs?
