"Diagram Sentences" that's new to me?
tbh I found grammar the least useful part of education, I just read books written before 1950 and copied how they phrased everything
If there was some practical aspect of knowing what a Preposition or a Participle was, then I haven't encountered it since I left school.

It’s something you have to understand to properly learn another language. That’s pretty much it. If you don’t need it you don’t need it.
