Is It just me, or would you like to get your hands around the throat of the person who invented "pop-ups"?

I clicked on something someone posted here, it was about Jacinda, and got a problem.

Was it an Ex-Redditor link? That dude will post a link from anywhere. He gives no fucks...

Yeah, and he's actually been trying to help me fix it but no luck so far.

It's in the 'hot' area here about Jacinda.

Since I last went there I installed some malware and now when I click on that link (Jacinda) I get a 'malware blocked' thing.

Not good, I would hope people here would do better.

What I dislike most are the delayed pop-ups that come on screen ten seconds after you visit a site. When I use my regular browser they are all blocked so that I don't see them, but I sometimes use other browsers in which they are not blocked. Just when you start reading the pop-up blocks the text. It's as if they were deliberately designed to piss us off.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I hate that shit!

If your on a desktop browser, get the uBlock Origin extension and additionally NoScript/ScriptSafe if you're willing to put in some work to train it. This will make your browsing experience much better and will eliminate popups, ads and other potential security risks associated with various web technologies.

If your on a phone browser, well you're fucked. The best you can do is Brave or Vivaldi.

I wanna throttle the person that invented the internet

IIRC the guy is known and has made a public apology for inventing them. Supposed to be used for warnings, etc but someone decided to use them to make money.

Well, at least he apologized, but we are stuck with the monster he created.

I miss the x-10 girls.

I have not seen a pop up in forever. That is like 90s internet ads.

We who use Adblock have forgotten how bad those things were.

I also run NoScript, which is a bit of a pain in the ass but usually it prevents a deluge of crap pouring onto every page I visit.

Sounds reasonable to me.

I liked them as a kid, but they're too sweet for breakfast, what with all the frosting.
