I never implied they ever did, however they made very clear that ukraine joining NATO would never be allowed to happen

So what would you recommend Ukranians to do - dont go to NATO? Putin will still come. Guaranteed. in 2014 Ukraine had a coup against corrupt president and Russia took Donbass and Crimea. Putin will always come, always!

lol... As if the US and by extension NATO weren't completely involved in all the regime change attempts of the past 20 years in eastern europe and middle east...

Mearsheimer is right and wrong at the same time. He just doesnt get Putin's psychology. Or a Russian one. Putin will not let Ukraine to exist independently. Ever. He does not consider Ukranians as a separate nation.
