Yep, something not good was there. I (and you'll think I'm crazy I don't care) can "feel" ghosts- I can describe what they look like, how they dress, what they're feeling without seeing anything. When there's a sense of dread I've never been able to detect a human form, just darkness. It's long story how I confirmed it, but I've been able to describe to complete strangers their husbands, grandparents, children whom I've never met - even what they prefer to wear.
Most of the time, ghosts are: curious, protective (follow their loved ones around, usually their children), or playful, wanting to see their loved ones, not much else. That weird dread feeling and the foggy shadows and general uneasiness - I don't know what that is, just doesn't seem like from our world.
I don't think your crazy. I don't really blame people who haven't had anything like it happen to them before for thinking this sounds crazy. Even if someone spent the night in a "haunted" house or whatever the odds of experiencing anything are pretty low. But after the 10th time in 3 months you hear footsteps in the kitchen and the radio you use to pretend like it isn't happening to get shut off then that confused old dead man hops in bed with you and flips out just as scared of you as you are him. Yeah you're gonna believe.
That demon though fuck him. I love that house. I thought about doing some kind of cleansing ritual but I ended up just thinking the fucker would probably like the attention. I still own it, it's an Airbnb now. The niggers in that neighborhood we're way sketchier. A demon can't steal a bike out of your shed.
I think most demons lurk and get stronger around people with a propensity for negative energy, thoughts, and depression. I am pretty sure there's one in our home now. I feel something in the basement kinda like what you felt in that house. Had a dream it was in our bedroom closet when we first moved in, just watching us. I "woke up" in my dream and told it to leave us alone. It came out of the closet, walked up to me (took the form of an old bald man), and whispered in my ear, "I was here before any man walked the earth and I'll be here long after you are gone", then slinked back into the closet. Sometimes I still feel it in the closet so I always have the doors closed.
I think it's more attached to an object, though. Trying to clean out the junk, lots of old stuff in there. Some items are from my husband's first marriage, and the home they lived in would have some spirit yell at them to get out, stomping in the attic - both of them witnessed the walls oozing one night. His wife left him while they were living there, so I think since he was depressed from that, the entity attached to him or something from that home.
And, I think it knows how to get to my husband. If he's home for too long, he will start to get really depressed, so I try to keep him busy with things to do outside or with friends. It was getting to me, so I started praying for protection each morning and it leaves me alone now. Still creepy in the basement but I don't feel afraid because I have God.
It is weird that it was acting as an old man. Most of the time those energies/demons I've felt try to pass off as children.
Was the ooze a visual phenomenon like my shadow guy or your old man? Or was there actually sticky stuff on your walls that lingered permanently? Funny you said demons pretend to be kids. All three occasions I heard the grunting it sounded like it was coming from about the height a 5 or 6 year old. But it didn't sound like a sound youd make imitating a kid. The shadow was taller than child too at least 5'4". Maybe it was on its knees when it got loud, or a different entity. I don't know
if you're not bullshitting It sounds like your in deep and this thing is really getting to you. Best advice I can give you is to tell them to fuck off if they start their shit, and leave it at that. Don't let them effect any action you take. If you need to go down to that basement you have to do it, even if you have to get someone with you just go. Praying kind of plays into them in my opinion. It's your home. God doesn't pay your bills or defend it for you that's all up to you. I don't pray often but when I do it's usually to get some guidance on something or to pray for someone I care about to think about what they're doing. Don't waste your prayers on them.
