I don't know much about firearms. My husband though loves them and has a few. (He is always trying to get me to go to the shooting range and I joke with my temper he shouldn't be advocating I get my own gun). He will talk on and on about models, makes, years, production companies, blahblah, blah. My eyes just glaze over. Are there any quick read books I can pick up to get the basics so I can sort of follow his conversation? I don't have a lot of time, and I really don't have the interest...I just want to be able to understand him.

Learning the difference in the bullets is the easiest way to start. Once you understand the most common bullets shot, you can understand the most common guns that shot them. It's a strong basis to start from.

I'd say start with .22 long rifle, 9mm luger, and .30-06. those 3 are perhaps the most common bullets within their firearm types.
