Started getting that sixth sense icky kinda feeling just before the onset of a cold. haven't had one in over a year and wondering if anyone here had some tips on how to either stop it dead in it's tracks or dampen the blow. i already eat healthy af (apple a day kinda guy) and work out regularly so my body already has a decent defense going, just wondering what you all think is best.

thanks

EDIT: A cocktail of raw garlic, red onions, salt water, zinc, a bottle of whiskey, all while bathing in the sunlight and doing push-ups should do the trick.

Along with everyone else here, I start with vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D, and also quercetin.

Add a nasal rinse sleep and water to this and I promise you either won't get it or it will be so mild as to not bother you... Nasal rinse is way underrated

I've been boiling salted water, putting a towel over my head and inhaling the fumes, done twice today and it seems to do some good immediately after. I imagine it's similar to what nasal spray does.

When you feel the scratchy throat, a frequent salt gargle helps too.

This recent post had an interesting nebulized hydrogen peroxide treatment https://poal.co/s/QStorm/505271

Garlic - if you don't mind smelling like a spicy sausage for a bit https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7673072/

Common colds begin with a scratchy or sore throat. Gargle with salt or baking soda. Attack it while it's still localized and hasn't spread throughout the body.

This! The microbial count is low when you first notice it. Don't feed them and do what you can to bring the count down.

Bugs like that feed on sugar and processed foods, both as they pass over them while eating, as in when you swallow or drink. But also if you eat those foods in general your immune system takes a hit and your defenses weaken. So best to avoid bad foods for the first few days as soon as you feels off or a scratchy sore spot develops in your throat.

You can lower the microbial count as OP said but I prefer to use ACV mixed with water to both drink and gargle. THE MAIN thing I've found to work amazing is raw cloves of garlic. One at a time in your mouth, chew into paste and swallow little by little so it runs down a coats your throat. If you do it right YOU WILL feel it when it coats the infection site in your throat because it will burn. Avoid rinsing right away, let that shit sit for a while and repeat as much as you can. 1 clove 4x a day or 2 cloves 4x a day.

I've stopped so many colds dead in their tracks using ACV and garlic that it makes me feel stupid for all those years I wasted getting sick. I've even had it migrate to my inner ears and cause congestion there from my throat before I got my hands on garlic, so probably on day three, just as the fever was starting and still fought it all back in one day with my home remedy.

I just ate garlic raw for the first time in my life, just like you said to, chewing it into a paste and swallowing it in parts. I must say it's got to be one of the most unpleasant things I've eaten in a long time. It must take some getting used to, or my garlics aren't built the same way as your garlics, because that was honestly the worst I thought I was gonna throw up. The science seems solid, but I can't get over that raw taste it's just nope.

lol, yeah it's rough. I think depending on ripeness some cloves burn more as you chew them than others. This is mostly a constant issue no matter how used to it you are but it becomes easier to tolerate. The other part is once it hits your stomach it can be VERY uncomfortable for about 30min. This does get better as you get more used to it.

I have to say I'm impressed at your willingness to try something new. But I know exactly what you went through.

I would personally used a garlic press and then consume it

Lock yourself in a closet with a space heater and a bottle of whiskey

Mind over matter. You cant simply say you're not going to get sick... You have to believe you won't get sick.

Everything else is just a pacifier. And it only makes you more likely to get sick because now your body thinks it needs "help" to fight off sickness.

Placebo aside, be open to whatever develops. Your body can probably handle it just fine, so ride with it. Don't go in a pussy worrying that you're going to get sick.

I know people who think like this and I even started to believe it. I just hung out with a friend who had a cold and I believed I wouldn't get sick because I'm healthy and active. I'm sick

There are no "colds" anymore - only "COVID".

Only thing I've seen any science for is garlic: https://examine.com/supplements/garlic/

Garlic gives me nose bleeds from Hell though so it hasn't helped me.

A nice delivery for garlic is buttered garlic bread (on sliced french/bagette), toasted under a broiler with parmesan and/or your favorite seasoning salt.

Linus Pauling disagrees.

Is Linus Pauling the guy who advocated for hyperdosing vitamin C based on monkeys having the ability to synthesize their own vit C, based on pure theory and 0% actual results whether hyperdosing actually helps for humans in studies?

I might be wrong maybe there are several studies prooving hyperdosing of vit C works.

You are.

Ironically I ate raw garlic when I had a moderate to bad sore throat. It actually did eliminate a lot of the sore throat permanently after that. I've never really had a specific food really ever do anything for anything so that was actually surprising.

High doses vitamin C, chicken noodle soup

Zicam works for me. After about 8 hours symptoms start to disappear so I just stop taking it. Had the same bottle for about a year.
