Instead of tips for a shitty made in China generator I'll assume you have basic skills or a friend with them and here is a diy home generator made with an alternator and a used lawnmower engine. Sure it's not state of the art but it also is cheap. You don't need fancy looks for a device to protect your family but just does it work and not break down.
