Had a conversation with my pastor today.
He believes tithing (the 10% principal in Malachi 3:10) is exclusively to the church where I am inclined to believe that is it giving to anything that is of God’s work and for His glory.
What do you think?

Tithing is exclusively 10% to your church and outside the church is additional offering
Give them 10% of your income so they can use that money to flood the country with illegals from the 3rd world. If you can give 20% that'd be great, helps the preacher get a new luxury automobile or vacation home.

I wonder if the peasants in Malachi 3:10 were taxed 45% and higher like we are nowadays.
I think the modern princes take the Lords share and then some.

Biblically, it’s is very much monetary, resource, and sustenance oriented. That can be money, time, food, clothing, donating transportation etc.
The premise is that everything is God’s and we are only stewards. Nothing belongs to us. Anything that comes to us is 100% God’s and all He asks is that we give 10% of that back in his name.

I know how and why tithing is a thing. I also know if you are donating money to any charity you are a fucking idiot.
Charity is your labor, your skills, and your time. You cant buy your way into Gods good grace.

tithes used to have more of a purpose. I would say that you already tithe via taxes since those go to help with the social programs that the church would historically have been in charge of.
Some churches if you tithe it goes to feed hungry people in africa, or to ngos to help with immigration... I don't think either of those are in His name, so ...
I would say that you could give to causes that you feel promote the church. Vincent james hopes to get 50k this year and just moved his family to ID.

Your taxes also subsidize planned parenthood. Rather poor argument to say that something compulsory (that is, taxes) qualifies as "giving."
We should ascribe to be like the Macedonians, who gave "according to their own ability, beyond their ability, [and] of their own accord." (2 Cor 8:3)

Indeed. Jesus certainly didnt claim taxes extracted by Caesar at swordpoint were a "tithe". Tithes are freely given for religious purposes, not to support secular tyrants and freeloaders.

I was pointing out that giving to the church was to cover costs in the community; while at the same time pointing out that a lot of church giving is not logical.
If giving to the church goes to destroy christians and paying taxes goes to killing children, i don't think they are that different. Much better would be to promote productive causes by giving outside of church.

Tithing to good works is the Christian requirement. The 20% or whatever is the jewish requirement. Churches frequently conflate the two.
Churches are not Christian doctrine. Fellowship and good works are.
10% from the poor may starve them. 20% from the wealthy may go unnoticed.
Jesus's church was a hillside or table. This is why Jews hate Jesus so much. No clergy required.
