I think it has to do with the origins of anime, which was Disney inspired. That, and let's face it, white people overall are the best looking lol It's probably the same reason why so many yellow women dye their hair colours that are natural to white women. Everyone loves the Aryan aesthetic!

I heard this as well. The orifins of anime come from Disney (Bambi) hence the inspiration for large eyes.

I always thought this a bit strange. Isn't it normal/standard to have heros/characters of the same race as the culture? But the heros/characters in anime are mostly westerners/white

They don't, well to the Japanese they don't anyways, and there are distinctions between how the Japanese are drawn and how Westerners are drawn in anime.

Generally Westerners are drawn with broad jaws, bigger noses and strangely enough, smaller eyes
