Download a proper fix right here https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Ubuntu is nigger shit, its the microjew of the linux world, also filled with bloat.

At least link to Mint which is still easy for new comers. https://linuxmint.com/

Debian is the same weighted down nigger jew shit. At least tell him to research active linux distros. Theyre purpose size install style is all varying. Kali is security and hacking edubuntu is science elementary os is school based l8nux mint and ubuntu kde are desktop full features. Grab an xcfe linux version of debian or ubuntu for a lite weight option. Though even akde linux os only 1gb compared to 16 or so for windows. Arch is a build every package linux. Got manually install all components so have print guide out. Ubuntu is byfar the most useable versio. Of linux hige repos of ppl fixing stuff and bring high compatible

... did you have a stroke near the end there?

OP couldn't find the license key in the UEFI and you are pushing Mint over Ubuntu?

[–] 2 pts (edited )

a key is stored in the UEFI but not displayed anywhere directly. that key is specific to that hardware layout and the version of windows it came with and will automatically register itself any time you do a bog standard reinstall. you have to fuck around with the original downloaded image to force a different version of windows than what came with the machine which is not difficult but then wont automatically register, for that you need to buy a key or use a key management service.

most people dont know how to extract the key from the UEFI to begin with.

a more correct response would be giving him the instructions to do it through powershell - eg 'wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey'

just tested that on my machine and sure enough, it returns the original Windows 10 basic key and not the Windows 10 Pro key generated by the kms.

Only one with a better answer.

Gentoo is the only correct response here.

The license is stored in the UEFI on the motherboard. You shouldn't have to fuck with the license at all.

there are about a dozen valid reasons to need to fuck with the license on a windows pc. the uefi stored key is all well and good until something critical fails permanently and you need to replace it.

[–] 1 pt

Is your system currently running? You can pull it up in Windows or in the BIOS.

[–] 1 pt

Reboot and mash on the F10 and F12 keys repeatedly (I forget which one it is for Dell) until you get into their CMOS. It should be stored there.

[–] 2 pts

You know you are old when you still use CMOS to describe BIOS which is now called UEFI which will soon be called LGBT and then skynet will kill us all.

[–] 2 pts

keyboard shortcuts to boot straight into uefi feels like snapping on rubber gloves while telling your computer to lower its trousers bend forward over the table and relax.

If it is ever called LGBT, then I would welcome the Skynet slaughter.

Method one - search bar, type powershell, right click, run as administrator

copy everything between the following brackets - [wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey] and paste it in (or type it you lazy fuck) it will return the original key from the PC. This key will not work if you have made major hardware changes, are swapping in an HDD from another PC, using it on a different level of Windows, or a home build that came with alternative or no OS.

better method -

you look up rattiborus kms and never bother asking that question again

youre welcome.

Sometimes the sticker is on the inside of the case. Sometimes the dell recovery cd has it, or is taped inside the case somewhere.

Googling "windows can key reveal program " might find you some warez that do that. Snad boys revelator was one that I used in the 90s, but I think it just removed the asterisk from stored passwords

Windows 10 no key needed. They check a hardware profile. You can just click past that and when you connect to internet just check the activation.

[–] 0 pt

Btw windows 10 is hardware ID and will require an email if hardware other than gpu is changed

kek. hell no.

KMS.

literally zero real reason to ever pay for windows directly.

Go windows 7 or xp or go linux
