Well no one can prove that ludicrous time scale, there is no evidence for anything being that old. Yeah they did sequencing, but there is no evidence what they sequenced came from those little particles they show in electron microscope images. It may have come from yeast or other fungi, bacteria, our own mRNA spliced in an unfamiliar way (less likely), or any other source. That sequencing doesn't prove anything
Those are good points. I will keep that in mind as I read more on this. Thanks.
No worries, despite my initial angry comment I am open to them existing, I just don't see evidence. Just a knee jerk reaction because of 2 years of the tv telling everyone we need to destroy our lives when the fundamentals of viral theory can't be proven
Anger is good. Honest conversation is rare.
I was thinking the other day about why Reddit became an echo chamber and I think I get it now. Reddit is a system. All systems have bias (english on the que ball to my mind), they all spin away into their own little pattern. The core of the Reddit mechanic is the upvote / downvote system + moderation. This mechanic SEVERELY punishes unpopular ideas into oblivion.
Well, I was thinking about the original population of reddit. It was about equal between the left and right in all extremes EXCEPT for a teeeeeny tiiiiny number of users favouring the left.
Well, what happened was the upvote/downvote system selected for leftist ideologies and shunned right ideologies as the system wound forward. This upvote / downvote system self selected lefties into moderator positions where the leftist mods simply started banning all right ideas and eventually totally taking over all mod positions to eventually engulf the entire Reddit system in a single set of self referential ideological positions.
This functionality actually GUARANTEES that no competing right wing ideas will EVER survive long enough to gain ground and establish territory in those systems ever again.
You kind of reminded me of that thought with your comment. I have been thinking about what does it mean to want to steer our people forward because if we want to do that we are going to have to establish rules in a system that has to outlive us and the danger is always the same: how to keep the system from becoming so self referential that it cannot see beyond it self any more.
This whole viking fuck you let's fight first has the downside of filtering out the ultra weak so there is that. But man does it work great for establishing a king of offensive / defensive framework that allows for freedom through responsibility. It keeps our egos in check and it makes sure the soyboys that occasionally come in here don't last for more than a day or so.
Interesting experiment this.
