Because those who took control over the last several hundred years now control a national government that taxes ~50% of everyones' income through sales and income taxes, has a huge army with nukes and police forces. They also control the media that would normally be the avenue to get the word out. Your local militia club isn't going to overthrow the people in power. You aren't thinking big enough.
