Every place i have travelled to in my entire lifetime has had the little 9 at the end of each price for regular, mid, and premium gasoline. the purpose, i've been told, is some marketing gimmick originally used to attrack customers away from competitors when gas was less than $1 a gallon.

usually the prices are stacked vertically so those little 9's all line up at the end, and it's always 9.

that's inverted 666, and it's never changed in my lifetime.

why is it still in use?! gas will never drop below $1 again, ever. it hasn't been below $1 in decades yet the 666 remains on every new sign made.

i've also been told that the small 9/10 of a cent at the end fools the consumer into thinking gas is one penny cheaper, even though in reality one tenth of one penny plays no influentual role in a person's budget when gallons are 31,000 times as expensive as one tenth of one cent.

this ludacrous practice is either a) a massive insult to anyone with an iq above 70 or b) a slap-in-the-face way to put 666 every few miles down the road. possibly both.

what do you think?

Edit: I am aware of capitalization errors. I dgaf

C. It's from an old ass tax law that never ended.

More fundamentally, it's from a time when a tenth of a cent was actually worth something.
