I’d second ’s recommendation for a P365. Either the X (bigger grip/more rounds and smaller barrel…more recoil) or the XL (bigger grip/more rounds and longer barrel/less recoil).

Shooting something like a P226 or a P229 is very comfortable and has almost no recoil. Going to a 365 will get you something you can carry much more easily. It holds fewer rounds than the larger cousins, but is a compact double stack as opposed to most smaller guns that only hold a single stack. That gets you a few more rounds in the magazine (ie more chances to hit the bad guys) than most smaller pistols.

Single stack means all the bullets are in a straight line in the magazine. Double stack means the magazine is a little wider, so the rounds nestle in offset from one another.
