Ok, it's working now. There's just this little unrelated thing I noticed. Might as well take care of that while I'm at it.

Should be an easy fix. Let me get in there real quick and... CRAP!

Had to explain this to a guy that found a new love of maintenance at a later stage in life.

Whatever you think is going to be a 5 min fix never is.

When you quote a job always quote for 2hrs on site. Better to over estimate then under.

That 1hr job you quoted for 2 will take 5 minutes.

Not maintenance related, but similar...

I would always give my bosses an honest estimation at how long a job would take... and the times shit came up or it was more complicated than it first look, I'd always get shitt with no understanding.

So now I just tack on a bunch of time to my guess or give some vague answer that I'll know once I'm into it...

Only way to appease desk jockeys. They'll never understand how maintenance actually works until they are underneath a house with you in mud dust etc.

Everything to a desk jockeys is key in lock and it opens. Unless they are prior maintenance, then a quick silence over the phone when asked how long it'll take will give them all they need to know.
