Even in the liberal areas, I don't think many parents were testing their kids prior to this school year, since many of them were at home last years. And a lot of school districts in those areas are encouraging or mandating tests for kids in school. So you test more kids, and regularly, so you're bound to have more positives. Still haven't heard of a single child that was actually sick from covid though.
