I have a bunch of the plastic water jugs filled with well water and keep getting this film inside. They were left outside for a couple of months but are stored inside now. I couldn't clean it out with bleach but they still end up floating free in the water. How can I tell if it's just hard water deposits vs some kind of algae or biofilm?

I have never read about an issue with that in approved containers. I mean city water is treated, now if you were using 2 litre soda bottles it could be an issue.

Yeah I'm just wondering about different containers. Glass vs plastic, or clear vs solid (like Jerry cans).

Glass isnt really very practical. I have 30 gallon barrels inside garage and use ibc totes outside but under cover and wrapped in tarps. Course I got many 2 litre bottles also but they are more for flushing toilet. (septic tank)

Those big totes are cheaper than I thought. Especially when rainwater tanks are mostly $500-1000.
