Autism is probably genetic, although there is some speculation that some of it is caused by vaccinations. The term "autism" is a broad term for a whole spectrum of disfunctions. In my opinion, it is not caused by the home environment or by the treatment a child receives from adults, although abuse may exacerbate the symptoms of a problem that is already present. Autism is a physical malfunction in the brain.
