I am thinking of getting a VPN in an effort to protect myself. Is there any non-pozzed companies out there, that you are aware of? is it a waste of money? im tired of ads and the entire western world knowing better than I, my shopping needs. any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

If you aren't paying anonymously, it's pointless to use a VPN.

How do you pay anonymously?

Use a prepaid gift card such as vanilla gift purchased with cash.

I use a VPN that allows you to pay with crypto and you don't need an email or anything. Use a one time wallet and you are pretty damn anon.

Very cool. I use express vpn and my 1-yr is up in a couple months. What’s your service?

Even if you are, they have your IP and know who you are connecting to. If the VPN is compromised there is no security. Better to use Tor or Tor + VPN.

The only real solution to making a transaction untraceable is via techniques similar to money laundering. Replace "dollar" with "packet" and the same principles apply. How do you get the dollar from person A to person B without some person C who can observe the path being able to infer person B? That's the question.

They have everything about themselves hidden on a whois domain search, even their domain provider has their information hidden. The only thing you know about this company is what they tell you and there is literally nothing to stop them from lying about everything. Could be hosted in Israel and manned by JIDF for all you know.

Use an onion network

Just give me $10 every month. Won't do anything except I'll get your money and not some scam artist.

What you're looking for is called Tor and it's free.

Deeper Connect on the Deeper Network.

https://shop.deeper.network/

One time purchase. No monthly fees. The Nano is very portable.

The problem with VPNs is that the the site you want to protect yourself from know the list of IP addresses that all the popular VPN use and they block traffic from those IP addresses.

Ths "D"PN or Distributed Private Network. Is different.

Check it out.

Can t you run a decentralized vpn on a raspberry pi or similar?

I have no idea of how to do that.

I bought a Deeper Network Mini from indigogo, (for about $220 back in may 2021). I didn't receive the mini until August 2021. I also bought a Pico, (portable DPN), But I have not received it yet.

I like the DPN a lot. I have never been blocked from a website.

It's probably dumb but I don't use a VPN. It's not as though their servers aren't already hooked to the NSA. I use the Brave browser with all the adblocks turned on and it does really well. But security isn't my field of expertise.

People are simply swapping the point of spying. A VPN just adds latency in my opinion.

You are assuming that 100% of VPN services are compromised. That's unlikely. Even if they are, I still like the idea of my ISP/google/and the rest of them not having a live record of everything I do online,

[–] 1 pt

100% don't have to be compromised if the entire global internet backbone is and if all software and hardware is backdoored.

You cannot accomplish anonymity with anything less than an old used computer purchased second hand with cash and no paperwork. Never connect it to any wifi or local network that you touch yourself. Only boot Tails on it, never windows. Physically remove the webcam and microphone on it. And quite frankly never store it anywhere on or in your property when not using. Also a long range wifi antenna so you can be far away when using public wifi to avoid the security cameras around such wifi points.

Anything less is just masturbation.

Add to that, some services check for VPN servers and won't work if they recognize you're using a VPN. However, I understand your reasoning. I suppose it would be useful if you constantly switched VPN servers so your IP address wasn't useful to anyone.

i have brave, and i like it.

You're dumb.

The brave browser doesn't do jack shit except make it harder for the websites you visit to ID you, and it doesn't even do a good job of that.

A good VPN encrypts all of your traffic between your computer and the VPN server, making it look to the outside world like you are browsing the internet from your VPN's server. This prevents 1) your ISP, 2) DNS servers, and 3) websites from detecting who you are (you should still use scriptblockers and anti-fp). It makes you invisible to casual spying and dragnet surveillance.

You still need to run a good browser (NOT CHROME BASED BROWSERS) with a script blocker and anti-fp extension though, because your browser can pass information through the VPN and give it to the websites you are visiting, and anyone who is running javascript on the website.

If they are really trying to figure out who you are, it's not good enough, but it's good enough for general privacy.

The catch is that you have to have a good VPN that isn't spying for governments and doesn't keep logs. They exist. See other comments.

Buy a hacked ssh host and set one up yourself

I don’t bother. It’s kind of autistic to try.
