Are you talking about Farmer Carry? It's a good compound, dynamic exercise. Sure. if done wrong, there is potential for injury. I don't see it any worse for the spine than heavy squats or deadlifts, I think it's good for the spine because you use less weight.
I do them on my toes, call them Farmer Wife's Carry, and do them in square shape to hit the side-to-side and backwards.
What muscles are you trying to stimulate growth in though ? Seems pretty inefficient and lots of potential downside imho
Not all gym work is about stimulating growth, it's resistance training to bulletproof everything from your traps down to your calves, you're getting some great core work, hip flexors are getting some love, and grip is getting strengthened.
It’s good cardio.
