Been a bit of a gym rat for like 30 years , I don't get it . Seems like a great way to fuck up your knees , compress or even fracture your spine , and fuck your hips up for good measure.

I do heavy yoke carries and farmers walks all the time. Great workout. From grip strength, to core work and leg conditioning.

Most of the time it's people showing off, but being able to move lots of weight for distance is a skill, and a useful one imo

There is a benefit to being able to carry people or heavy objects a distance. It must be done carefully because injury chances increase with distance and weight.

[–] 1 pt

Its actually really good for tendons, bone density, posture, etc... Those things all react to stimuli and properly moving heavy things does this.

[–] 1 pt

Really good for tendons.

Your platnar fascia will disagree.

A small amount of stress is good for the body fatty.

You're wrong. The growth factors and signals for strengthening tendons is based off of and from the signals for doing so with bones. If you're strengthening your bones, you're also strengthening your tendons.

either showing off or doing a farmers carry.

Are you talking about Farmer Carry? It's a good compound, dynamic exercise. Sure. if done wrong, there is potential for injury. I don't see it any worse for the spine than heavy squats or deadlifts, I think it's good for the spine because you use less weight.

I do them on my toes, call them Farmer Wife's Carry, and do them in square shape to hit the side-to-side and backwards.

What muscles are you trying to stimulate growth in though ? Seems pretty inefficient and lots of potential downside imho

[–] 1 pt

Not all gym work is about stimulating growth, it's resistance training to bulletproof everything from your traps down to your calves, you're getting some great core work, hip flexors are getting some love, and grip is getting strengthened.

Seems to me like either a bad excercise or they're trying to impress other people for some reason

It's for training proper posture and other things.

I think you would have to be heavily ego lifting to damage your body with that exercise.

I think dead lifts are more dangerous because they are easy to do wrong, you are bending your back and you are holding a lot of weight doing it.

Farmers walks? It is a thing. If your form is on point, you should suffer no tension on your knees or lower back.

Farmer's walk. It's an excellent exercise.

Been a bit of a gym rat for like 30 years...

I do not believe you one bit.

e; This thread is depressing. Too many people have no clue what they're talking about and think an extremely beneficial exercise is about muh showing off or whatever.

I know farmer carries. I used to see people pinch grip plates and walk. Just don't quite get it. Conditioning maybe , just seems like poor body mechanics , when using very heavy weight relative to size of individual

[–] 1 pt

It's a functional strength exercise versus targeted. How often do you walk around carrying something of more than meaningless weight? Probably frequently compared to how often you bench press something, or squat something, or single arm curl something.

[–] 0 pt

Exactly, if you have done enough heavy farmer carries you gain actual functional strength.

That means the next time you buy $200 worth of groceries you can carry it all into the house in one trip.

[–] 0 pt

its called farmers carry and its the one of the best exercises for desk jockeys

Like Chris Cuomo ? Aka Fredo

[–] 0 pt

Not me. I can bench 2 110lb but I try to get the closest bench. If not fuck it I'll roll them across the floor.

[–] 0 pt

How else are they going to leave them on the floor for you to put away?

I'm not a nigger , I rack my plates.
