West central NM. I spent several years in the area but it’s hard to make a decent living. I loved it there. It’s great for alternative power and enough water in the area for hydro power. Adobe house with built in wood burning rocket stove for heat.
From what I've seen, NM is pretty blue and full of weirdos. I didn't expect there to be redeeming qualities that mesh with the general feel of places like this.
If you get away from Santa Fe and Albuquerque the people and culture are welcoming and warm. And there’s a lot more to the state than desert, although that’s beautiful in its own right. The west central mountains pull me.
I grew up in New Mexico and loved it there when I was a kid. Had grand parents in Ruidoso, it was a great place until about 16 years ago...now its a forsaken liberal wasteland. New Mexico is a dead state like California and I don't ever want to step there again.
