There's summer weight wool socks too that don't get hot and that won't hold sweat like cotton does. Good wool socks are as or more durable than similarly-priced cotton.
I have never been able to find a 6-pack of wool socks for $20.
Have I not already acknowledged that cheap cotton socks are cheaper than wool socks? What's your point at this point? Cheap is cheap and has less functionality than better material.
Because efficiency is always king. If I can buy 6 pairs of socks that last 5 years for $20, the only way I'm going to do better is some combination of price and performance that is better than averaging $0.011 per wear. A single $20 pair of wool socks would have to last 5 years being worn 7 days a week to break even. 6 pairs of $20 wool socks would have to last 30 years to match the economics of cotton.
