Remember when they told him he was being spied on and he packed up his office and left? I agree in the first half he wasn’t willing to die to save the country, but in the second half he gained some confidence and saw they weren’t going to stop anyways.
The Capitol protest was pretty much Trump's last chance to do anything. When he decided to throw everyone under the bus he lost most of his support outright since he was given an out and didn't take it.
