I have a small wood insert in an old stone fireplace. I typically brush it out once a year but I plan on using it quite a bit more frequently now that my kids are getting older. I'm burning bone-dry, standing dead western larch and Douglas-fir. How frequently do you guys brush?

If you burn only the larch you’d probably never have to clean the chimney. The fir, or any conifer, is what leaves most of the soot. We use pine for fatlighter for starting the fire. We never burn the pine.
