IP addresses, can and have been taken from owners before.
Past that. Its not so hard to host your own website. on your own machine, from your own house. You can even host your own mail server. Again not that hard.
You may want to learn some things about security, but it can be done. I host my own mail server for my mail.
Also - While your at it. save your bandwidth from thieves with pi-hole

How about DDoS? Not saying it's going to systematically happen, but if it does, how do you deal with it with your own machine?
Blocking IP ranges that the attacks are coming from at your router.
Its not very feasible for a small private site. You need a bit of networking knowledge and some more than basic home gear.
If you want to get more into the system ... You have to have some sort of DNS provider... You could use cloudflare... they would then be your block points. But with spoofing IPs, and proxies, and such. If they want you down as a small private site. You are down.
