I wear tincloth (oilskin) pants for heavy rain gear. There is nothing superior. I've experimented with different waxes and treatments because the name-brand Filson wax is very expensive. But nothing I've tried even comes close to the quality of the Filson wax. Has anyone here come up with a homemade oilskin treatment that lasts?

Sadly, I've been looking for an alternative for nearly 2 decades and haven't managed to come up with anything that applies as nicely as the Filson branded stuff. I've tried all of the commercially available stuff, and about a hundred different recipies given online, all without luck. I gave up and just suck it up now.... it's one of a tiny number of products that I haven't been able to better.
