It's not yet legal to shoot traps, but I look forward to it.
One can dream. Until then we practice.

I used to shoot Trap a lot until I joined a club with a very nice Sporting Clays course... Once I discovered Sporting Clays I started preferentially shooing that rather than Trap. Sporting Clays courses change and are more dynamic. Trap gets repetitive. Hold over the top corner of the bunker, breath, yell 'PULL!', track, squeeze the trigger and then wait for your turn again. In Sporting Clays you never know what you will get... a single, double from the same launcher, double from different launchers, double on report, etc. We have 30 shooting stations but only use 15 per round so it is always fresh. The launchers get re-positioned once a week. Now Trap and Skeet seem boring. Only 5 Stand even sort of compares. I shoot a few rounds of Trap in the spring get back in the groove and that is it.
I second your recommendation on sporting clays. Except those bouncing bastard rabbits, I hate those.
I have to get back into it. It's a great sport and beats the shit out play golf with a bunch of faggots.
Also great to shoot skeet with foursome against another team. Everyone is so friendly....I guess everyone having a loaded weapon helps to cut down on stupid arguments.
I would like to but shotgun ammo is hard to come by in my state right now due to hunting seasons. I need the practice for ducks and doves.
I used to with my cousins when I was a kid. That 12 gauge killed my shoulder (I was 12) but I kept shooting anyway cause it was a lot of fun.
Recently picked up a 410, loving it.
I fucking love 5 stand. Trap is fun, 5 stand is where you'll end up ;)
Mostly skeet around here. 5 stand is good though.
What is 5 stand?
5 positions (stands) with 5 clays each all from various orgins, direction and speeds. Much more difficult, but imo much more rewarding and much more to learn.
That sounds really fun. We were poorfags in school and we just used hand throwers. When we all got pretty accurate we started having two guys throw and would change up the speed and trajectory as much as possible.
I used to shoot with an old JC higgans catalog gun. Reloded and everything, seems different now though, more corporate more rules more money and less drunk
I have found that a barrel with a choke somewhere between Modified and Full works best for Trap and Skeet shooting. If you have a Remington 870 you should be all set. If you want to really have a good advantage... buy the trap barrel for the 870. One of my friends bought one back in the 70's. One of the best trap guns I have ever used. Even when shooting from the fence. That means the tougher Men's or back 5 station positions. Ever since I got good at trap shooting, I have always wanted to go to the shootout in Vandalia, Ohio.
somewhere between Modified and Full?? For Skeet? Do yourself a favor and get a skeet choke, you'll thank me for that advice when you start hitting more than 3 birds a round!!!
I do, it's just expensive but I really like it
