Here is the shit advice I found online

https://ibb.co/72VDGqk

What I did... I found top 50 list for books all time in different genre... non fiction science fiction, novels, horror classics and some other top books of all time list.

I cross referenced them and made my own top 10 list books that made it on multiple list and high up I added up on a point system.

I don't have my top 10 but I think catch 22... 1984 don Quixote was on it.

Anyways the advice in the image is for modern day morons

If you want my advice, I'd say follow your instincts. If a book interests you, start reading it. If you don't enjoy what you are reading, stop. If you enjoy the book, take note of the author's name and try other books by the same author. Seasoned readers go by authors, not by book topics. For example, you don't just read For Whom the Bell Tolls, you read Hemingway. If your into science fiction, you don't just read Starship Troopers, you read Heinlein. Every now and then, expand your horizons by reading a famous classic. Apply the same procedure -- start it, and if it bores you, stop; if you enjoy it, keep going. It ain't rocket science, gents ... unless, of course, you are reading about rocket science.

I am stubborn and when I start a book I finish it... usually.. war and peace and Don quixtie have both had me stop half way though.

So I kinda disagree there. But if you like a book I have found I read the authors other books Philip k dick was one I'm very glad I did that

It’s ok advice for someone who doesn’t read all that much and might want to get a start. But after reading a lot, I would advise people to branch out and read, or at least try to read the classics. Some are better than others, Moby Dick being one of the worst, while Don Quixote might be the best novel ever written. This being said, the link’s advice to not read books you don’t like is good. Some books just aren’t worth the time investment unless you are learning something or enjoying it. I suffered my way through moby dick because I had this idea that I must finish the whole book. I wouldn’t do that again.

Interesting. I loved Moby Dick from start to finish. Couldn't put it down. Don Quixote bored me so much, I wasn't able to get past the first fifty pages or so.

I found Don Quixote was much more enjoyable as an audiobook (with good voice actors of course)

Good advice either way

I liked parts of Moby Dick but when the book went off into the anatomy of whales for pages and pages I was just bored to tears.

I filter books by authors.

Never read a feminine author

God damn books are so God damn pc... every science fiction book about space has some strong woman captain. At least say in the future women have been genetically modified to not have periods and be physically as strong through gene editing. Nope just our strongest best leader is a woman.. its so fucking insane.

My theory stand by.

Only authors serving progressive agendas got published.

Stronk wahmen? Boom women not having babies. Weakened armed forces and or first responders. Loss of heroic role models for boys resulting in less herioc men

Publishers and editors were the gate keepers. Now all Sci fi authors are feminized boys writing pure emo trash.

Yep.. I'm working on a book. I am going to self publish but a little different. Going to out of pocket print 100 very nice hard back books... but the book only has the first 3rd of the book in it with room for the next two 3rds of the book...

I will sign the first 100... if they don't like the start then return it and I will give it to someone else... either my book sucks or people start paying for the next part. I believe in the book as every author probably does but I'm putting my money where my mouth is... from there I will do gorilla marketing and put it on Amazon in paper back next will be hiring people to read it for audible...

It's ambitious but I just got debt free and will have time to finalize everything.

'West With The Wind' by Beryl Markham is the only roastie-written book I ever liked.

If you sift through a pile of shit sometimes you find tasty treats.

No thanks though

That reminds me of my childhood in Ethiopia, picking corn kernels out of horse dung

I have enjoyed several movies and TV specials based on Agatha Christie novels, but found the books unreadable. Still, she is the best-selling author of all time, lol

There are some good women authors of children's books. Of female authors writing for adults, I have great regard for (((Ayn Rand))).

Been a long time since I was a kid reading books. Yes I grew up on Enid Blyton and Cynthia Voight.

Feminine, or female? To kill a mockingbird was a good read. The guns of August was a good read.

Female raised boys are as bad at writing as women.

All feels. All cuckolded. No masculinity. No facts. Little logic or reality grounding

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet

I read books that are classics or recommended to me. Sometimes I also look up the text books for college classes and read those.

Will also just look up philosophers books.

I don't like things like top 50 lists because they tend to have a lot of older classic books that were certainly influential to the genre, but might be boring compared to a modern book. And most people end up reading those classics in school anyhow.

And I wouldn't spend a lot of time with fantasy or science fiction books from 50 years ago. Very few have held up well over time compared to modern series. The Dune books, for example, are on every reading list, but they are boring with poor character development, which was typical of sci-fi from that time. And each book in the series gets worse. The only reason to even read the first book is because it influenced the genre so much.
