They're not our enemy but they're not our friends. They are their own country and they put their own needs above others as every country should, including us.

I agree with you both. I think the political and leadership differences as well as how Americans are softer and more liberal minded in general apply too. The people and the governments don't see eye to eye so it can cause dramatic situations. Also Putin is far smarter than any US president has been since he took power so no personal respect from him for them. Maybe for Trump because he largely was cooperative with Putin.
don't forget that they recognize what the Jews did to them by enslaving them under communism, and how they also recognize who runs the US government now.
they kind of have a reason to hold us at arm's length.
I don't think they do. Surely some of them do, but the general public is not allowed to think like that.
realize that Putin even publicly made the comment that the same people who enslaved the Russians under communism are the same people currently running the United States.
