I see people posting sharp clear pictures on the internet and all they use is their iPhone. I'm pretty sure you don't have to adjust any manual settings to get clear crisp pictures with an iPhone either. My current Nikon Coolpix P2 takes great pictures, but it's only by accident that a choose the correct settings. Oh and one other thing: I have to hold the Nikon rock solidly still on macro shots to keep from getting blurry pictures; and that's difficult to do without a tripod.

Caution: observation bias.

My daughter has an iphone and 99.9% of the pictures she takes are absolute garbage. Every once in a while she will get 'lucky' with a good shot. And, then she will post it online.

You get to see all the crappy pictures you take, but you don't get to see all the crappy pictures other people take. Don't assume that all of your pictures will be great no matter how much you spend on equipment.

(Granted - you have a 15 year old camera. The software in the last few years has gotten better and any modern smart phone camera or point-shoot camera will be much better than your 15 year old camera...)

This is a true principle.

But it’s also true that as long as you hold the camera still the iPhone will record a pretty consistently amazing quality photo.

I used to think some of my friends were just amazing photographers but it turned out they just used iPhones. Now I’m as good as them.

I have an iPhone and pictures I take are effortlessly sharp and clear. It’s seven years old so I don’t even have the latest stuff.
