I want to make a simple belt out of 2 layers of 1.5" webbing sewn together. All buckle hardware seems like it has issues, but I have these connectors on my fall safety crap, and think they are pretty fool proof (few points of failure, just a bit of a pain to get them on).

Without knowing what they are called apparently they don't exist. I am looking for them in 1.5" (40mm, 38mm) but it seems like only "45mm webbing buckle" is searchable.

I think they may be called "pass-through buckles". They list them as that in the fourth pic of this harness. https://www.industrialsafetyproducts.com/frontline-combat-economy-series-full-body-harness-universal/

That looks like the right phrase!

It also looks like are also looking for exactly this.

Cool. I recognized them from harnesses we would use to climb masts. They're a fantastic clasp when they are comfortably taught. I don't think I'd like the offset fitting on the original one you posted. I'll see if I can dig something up.

Try to search for

Tri-glide strap adjuster

I'm looking for the ones that connect by one metal piece sliding into the other metal piece.

so if you look at the op in the 1st picture the top part is upside-down, but webbing is attached to each piece individually, then in the 2nd/3rd pictures you see the smaller piece passes through the larger piece. once it is through it rests very securely. many guardian harnesses use these for the chest connector (i couldn't find a good picture though).

really, i just want something low profile and simple. I might just resort to the 2x d-ring method, but that isn't as secure as i'd like. what does the military use, this seems like it should be a solved problem, but everything on bezos's site appears flawed.

Just borrow a cutting torch and make a set.

I have access to a metal shop, but seems like a $2 piece of stamped metal should exist. I might just go for one of the other solutions, it is just frustrating that I can't find it. I swear that some belts back in the day used this system.

In a world where nobody knows how to do anything without a degree in the field or a certification it is important to know how to do everything without either.

i mean that i would have to draw out something for the waterjet or torch, and it seems like an awful lot of work for something so simple. I might just use a scroll saw to do it if i took this route, it doesn't have to be perfect.

It does appear that there is a market for these, so maybe a production run would be worth it for somewhere that has a retail presence.

Give these guys some consideration; extremely good belts, of the type you're hoping to make. With what is in my opinion a better connection system.
