People didn't mind the Oracle and Morpheus because they were actually good actors. Nowadays you get **shit tier actors** because they scratch off **a diversity check list.** Smith and his ilk were just a G-Man trope which is why they all had that old school zero fun straight to business aesthetic. The overall story was literally just a retelling of biblical messiah tropes with mid tier cyberpunk injected. Others did that aesthetic way better. G.I.T.S. Cyberpunk TTG(beforetheytriedtomakeashitvideogame), Shadowrun, Bladerunner, Bruce Bethke's Cyberpunk which is where the term came from etc.
