Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't understand what's the big deal about concealed carry of guns. I don't want to show that I have gun. It's just a matter of privacy for me. I don't want to be assaulted from behind by somebody who is trying to steal my gun. Also don't want to look like an idiot who is showing everyone his gun. I don't see what's the difference between open carry and concealed carry in terms of public safety. So why concealed carry is illegal in some states?

Finally, someone who knows what they are talking about. The number of cases of open carry where a weapon was successfully stolen in the US is something like two - against elderly men. Iirc.

Open carry and concealed are very complimentary. Open carry is a crime deterrent just like parking lot police towers, parked police cars, and security cams. Simply seeing one makes criminals think twice. This also makes them think about the concealed weapons they can't see.

As you said, criminals are prey animals. They look for the weak. They prefer no risk to themselves.
