I'm not surprised. It was dark which made sense.

I just couldn't bring myself to eat it, probably psychological.

Look up the history of why Europeans don't eat horse and welcome to yet another surprising way our cultural heritage has been attacked over the centuries. (Hint, it was a religious thing)
