What's up with this rhetorical technique? Allow me to paraphrase a conversation or two:

I do not like Amazon's Wheel of Time. They have changed the story from the books. They have changed the story from the books that make no sense. They have changed the story nonsensically in an attempt to subvert Western civilization.

I get: "I was with you up until 'Western Civilization'. What is this Jordan Peterson crap?" BANNED

(Non-pornographic) Books should not be banned from libraries. The problem is not children who read too may books. The problem is the books woke teachers force them to read, alongside the teaching of woke nonsense. It would be better if the state didn't teach at all.

I get: "I was with you up until no public schools. Why do you hate children and learning?"

It's the same line of logic, you dummy. I just drew a different conclusion than maybe you did. The intermediate steps are exercises for the reader. Feel free to share your differing conclusion instead of getting butthurt and attacking me.

But anyways, how can a thought go "too far?" Is it necessary to shut off one's brain (or at least the mouth) once one reaches an unpopular conclusion?

I think you could combine charitable, private, and community schools with a state subsidies and compulsory education to give a chance to the children of deadbeats. Sort of like vouchers but no "public option". Allow anything but the monolith.
