Even though it’s legitimately a massive inconvenience to myself and my employer, what would they actually try to pull if I just decided not to show up. I realize fines and jail time as well as a misdemeanor are on the table, but is that really even likely?

Yes this. Show up and be a voice of reason.

The voice of reason would tell you to not capitulate to the charade that is the US justice system. You give it legitimacy by participating, it does not serve you, not even when you’re the jury. They’ll give you a fraction of what you get paid to work that day, turn around and tax you for it, then use that money to paint BLM murals.

And it could be a nigger that did nigger things and gets off. Or a white man getting railroaded that you could save. The system might suck but it is what we are stuck with right now.

Trust me, this corrupt system will not be changed from within. You will waste a lot of time just getting through the preliminaries. Then comes voir dire where everybody and his mother gets to ask you the most personal questions that you are required to answer, and will be 'on record' for who knows how long...or where that data will end up. If any answer is not liked by defense or DA, you will be excused from that jury, but recalled for future ones year after year. I know of one idiot that got summoned five times in one year until I told him how to put the brakes on it.

If your answers are liked, you will be shanghaied for that jury. You will get the privilege of listening to hours (if not days) of boring court procedure, threatened if you nod off, then the judge will give his orders on what evidence you can consider, what verdict you can make, and so on. In other words your findings are manipulated. You are then convened offstage, where other jurors will likely threaten you if you do not see things their way. After the trial is over you will be shanghaied again and again for other jury selections forever. The only way to win this losing game is not to play.

And it’s what you’ll be stuck with in the future with that attitude.
